The Sky Blue Song was written by ex-manager Jimmy Hill and former director John Camkin.
Ten ex players including Dietmar Bruck, Bob Wesson and John Williams joined in at half time during the game with Preston North End at the Ricoh Arena.
Its words remain largely the same as when it was first sung at a game against Colchester in 1962.
Mr Hill is widely credited with responsibility for Coventry City’s promotion to the old Division One in 1967 and went on to became one of the best known faces in television.
The original song used the words: “Let’s all sing together, Play up Sky Blues, While we sing together, We will never lose. Proud Posh or Cobblers, Oysters or anyone, They can’t defeat us, We’ll fight till the game is won.”
Later changes included taking out “Proud Posh or Cobblers, Oysters or anyone” and inserting “Tottenham or Chelsea, United or anyone”.
